UP TO DATE MEASLES INFORMATION

1) If you think that you have measles or have been in contact with a confirmed case of measles, please call us first before coming in. When you arrive for a consultation, please stay in your car and communicate with us by phone until a doctor or nurse calls you in.

2) Please do not walk in for measles immunisation (MMR) without an appointment as you may be asked to make an appointment at a later date as we need to prioritise our vulnerable children. We are experiencing high demand and the wait can be up to 2 weeks.

3) We are able to only immunise our enrolled patients despite of media statement that you can go to any GP because we do not have enough vaccines. Those who are not our enrolled patients need to go to their own registered doctors or go to the drop in clinics as per below
  • Monday to Friday 9am - 4pm - Clendon Public Nursing Office, Clendon Shopping Centre
  • Saturday and Sunday 9am - 4pm - Manukau Super Clinic 901 Great South Road, Manukau

4) As per MOH, we can only give MMR vaccines to the following
  • Children on the current immunisation schedule - we have brought forward the 15 month immunisation to 12 months. This is given again at 4 years.
  • Children aged 6-12 months if in contact with a known case
  • Children aged -12 months if they are travelling overseas soon to countries with an active measles outbreak
  • Youth and adults under 50 years old who had no doses of measles vaccines

Those > 50 years old are considered immune due to natural immunity when the vaccine was not yet developed.
Those <50 years old are immunised depending on the country that they grew up in. Measles vaccines were introduced in NZ in 1969, Australia 1969, UK 1968, South Africa 1975, USA 1968, Canada 1970, Ireland 1985, China 1963, Korea 1965, Hong Kong 1967, Singapore 1976, Fiji 1982, India 1985
